What we collect, and why

Bridget collects only what it needs to run the product:

  • Your email address — used to sign you in with a magic link and to send you expiry reminders (which you can turn off any time in Settings).
  • Your pantry contents and scan history (item names, quantities, categories, expiry dates, and metadata about when a scan happened, including how many items you kept, edited, or removed on the confirm screen) — this is the core of the product: it's how we show you what you have and suggest meals. We also record AI usage metrics for the requests that power scanning and suggestions — such as token counts and response time — to monitor accuracy and cost; these never include your item names or any other content you typed or photographed.
  • The date you accepted this policy — kept so we can show we have your consent.
  • Your IP address — used to apply rate limits (for example, on sign-in attempts and other requests) and recorded in our hosting provider's standard request logs; we do not use it to track you across sessions or sites.
  • Contact-form messages — if you use our contact form, your message (and the reply-to address you provide, if any) is relayed directly to the founder's inbox so we can respond. The message itself is not stored in our database and lives in that inbox like any other email you send us — it is not covered by the account-deletion flow below. The reply-to address is also used for rate limiting, held briefly in our database (at most a few days) before automatic deletion.

Photos, pantry text, and our AI provider

Bridget uses a third-party AI provider (Anthropic) to power scanning, ingredient parsing, and meal suggestions. Depending on which feature you use, that means sending your fridge/pantry photos (to identify ingredients), pantry text you type directly (to parse it into structured items), or your current pantry item list (to generate recipe suggestions) to the AI provider for processing. On our side, this content is processed in memory to produce the response and is not saved to disk or to any database of ours — but it may be retained briefly by the AI provider per their own data-retention policy, since we do not control how long a third-party processor holds request data on their end.

Where it's stored

Your account data above — pantry, recipes, scan history, usage records — is stored in our managed Postgres database (hosted by Neon); the exceptions are noted in their own bullets above. Everything we do store has standard encryption in transit (HTTPS) and access limited to the app's own servers. We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers.

Using data to improve Bridget

We record basic product-usage events (for example, which features get used) linked to your account, and use them only to run and improve the product described here — never sold or shared for advertising. We will not do anything with your data beyond running and improving the product described here.

Deleting your data

You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings — this immediately and permanently removes your user record and everything linked to it. You can also request deletion via our contact form.
